About Us

Bill von Achen is a business strategist, thinking partner and trusted advisor to executives and entrepreneurs,  and has led and facilitated peer groups for business leaders since 1995.

Bill von AchenBill is especially interested in the process of learning that takes place within groups.  His white paper, Thinking in Groups, Lessons from a Decade of Facilitating Executive Peer Support Groups, was presented at the 13th International Conference on Thinking in Norrkoping, Sweden in 2007, and was based on his extensive experience in facilitating peer support groups.  Thinking in Groups was also accepted as a peer review paper for the 14th International Conference on Thinking, held in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia in 2009.

Bill has over thirty years of management and leadership experience, developed from his work at privately held companies and at major corporations in a wide range of industries. Prior to founding his firm, Strategic Management Resources, in 1994, Bill served as Chief Operating Officer at Dash, Straus and Goodhue, Inc. (now Intertek Testing Services), an engineering consulting firm that was named to INC. Magazine’s list of the nation’s 500 fastest growing companies three separate times during his tenure.

In additon to running the Best Practices Boards program and his consulting and coaching work, Bill has served on the boards of a number of companies and non-profit organizations. In addition, he is a member of the Institute of Management Consultants, the Society for Human Resource Management, and the International Association of Facilitators.

Bill received his B.A. with High Honors (Phi Beta Kappa) from Rutgers University, and his M.B.A. with Honors from Boston University. In addition to his academic credentials, Bill has earned the designation of Certified Management Consultant (CMC) from the Institute of Management Consultants, and the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Society for Human Resource Management.
