Daniel Kahneman and the Art of Adversarial Collaboration

By now, you’ve no doubt learned that Daniel Kahneman, the Nobel Prize winner and author of Thinking Fast and Slow, passed away last week.

This morning’s NY Times features an op-ed piece by Cass Sunstein (a co-author with Kahneman and Olivier Sibony of the 2022 book Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgement), in which he shares his view about one of Kahneman’s greatest contributions to the field of inquiry, that is, his willingness to actively engage with those who did not share his views.

You can access Sunstein’s op-ed at https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/01/opinion/nobel-daniel-kahneman-collaboration.html

In today’s contentious environment, I can’t think of a more timely reminder of the importance of actively engaging with those with whom we disagree to more fully understand their perspective, and to find common ground that is the heart of the human connection!
