Thank you, Francesca Gino!

A heartfelt thank you to Harvard Business School Professor Francesca Gino for her excellent presentation/discussion yesterday afternoon about her book Rebel Talent: Why It Pays to Break the Rules at Work and in Life.

As I noted in my opening introduction to her presentation, Rebel Talent brings together many of the key lessons that have been the focus of our Best Practices Boards discussions and Leadership Development trainings over the past several years.  These include the importance of using questions to facilitate understanding, the benefits that diverse experiences and perspectives can bring to our thinking, the value of developing our strengths rather than focusing on overcoming our weaknesses, and the critical imperative to build organizations in which engagement is paramount.

In Rebel Talent, Francesca brings these and other essential lessons together in a compelling narrative that includes some amazing real-life stores of rebel talent in action.  So, if you haven’t already done so, I urge you to dive into the book and learn how you can work to foster rebel talents in your own organization.

Thanks again, Francesca, for your great book and your wonderful presentation yesterday!

p.s.  As part of her presentation, Francesca showed a video clip of Maurice Cheeks, NBA Hall of Famer and former coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, coaching a terrified 13-year-old Natalie Gilbert through her performance of the national anthem during the opening of a playoff game between the Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks back in 2003.  I promise it will bring a smile to your face and tears to your eyes.  Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dSzjIKtVcA.
